Monogram Snacks Martinsville to Host Check Presentation Ceremony for Grant Winners

MARTINSVILLE, VA – (December 5, 2016) – Monogram Snacks Martinsville will host a check presentation ceremony for local charities on Thursday, December 8 from 2:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. The charities which will be in attendance are 2016 Monogram Loves Kids Foundation grant recipients. The ceremony will take place at the plant located at 200 Knauss Drive.

A committee of Monogram Snacks Martinsville team members reviewed all submitted grant applications and chose 14 charities to which they would award funds. The Monogram Loves Kids Foundation is investing a total of $35,000 into these charities located with 75 miles of the Martinsville plant.

The mission of the Monogram Loves Kids Foundation is to support vital community needs and issues centered around children and their families in the communities where Monogram team members live and work.

The grant winners are:

 

The Community Fellowship – The funds will purchase backpacks, shoes, and school supplies for over 2,000 under-resourced students;

Charity League of Martinsville and Henry County – The grant money will purchase Christmas Cheer presents for more than 359 children ages 12-18 so that Christmas brightness can be spread to all children;

American 102 Youth Foundation – Funding will provide students with basic needs for success in school, including clothes, food, and even scholarship money;

Grace Network of Martinsville and Henry County – Funds will purchase basic hygiene products for under-resourced and impoverished families in the Martinsville community;

Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southwest Virginia – This grant will purchase wireless carbon monoxide detectors for the 18 bedrooms in the Ronald McDonald House;

CHILL/Piedmont Community Services – The grant will allow CHILL to host Red Ribbon Week at local high schools which encourages youth to live drug-free;

Weekend Meal Coalition for Gretna and Mt. Airy – This grant will purchase meals for students to take home over the weekend when they don’t have access to meals at school;

Focus on Youth/CASA – The grant will host community agency information and training sessions on how to improve fathers’ engagement in the lives of their children;

Dan River Basin Association – Grant money will provide environmental education programs for over 7500 students, which include getting out in nature and exploring the Dan River Basin;

Big Brother Big Sister of Danville Area – The purpose of this grant is to fund in part a trip to the Virginia Beach Aquarium to introduce the mentees to STEM by engaging in related activities and trips;

Family YMCA, Inc. – Funding from this grant will be used to help cover the expense of purchasing a gently used bus for the YMCA Child Care Programs to replace the existing 23-year-old bus that is used on a daily basis for transporting our child care program participants;

Gateway Streetscape Foundation – Gateway will use its funding to utilize recycled tires in order to turn them into planters along trail systems in Martinsville/Henry County area;

Tackfully Teamed Riding Academy Inc. – Tackfully Teamed is a therapeutic horseback riding center in Henry County, Va. for children with sensory disabilities. Tackfullly Teamed will use these funds to provide age-and ability-appropriate activities for siblings of the children who are in riding lessons.

HopeTree Family Services – HopeTree Family Services provides Christian support services to at-risk children and youth and to adults with intellectual disabilities throughout Virginia. HopeTree will use the funds to implement a new pottery curriculum for the 2016-2017 school year.
