Monogram Foods launches 2nd annual Penny Hardaway essay contest to grant scholarship money

Today Monogram Foods unveiled our second annual Penny Hardaway essay competition open to all 11th grade students in the Shelby County, Tipton County, Crittenden County and Desoto County areas.

Submissions will be accepted October 10 through December 2, 2016. The topic of the essay is “Penny Hardaway: A Great Memphis Role-Model”. Once received, essays will be reviewed by a team of Monogram Foods team members and narrowed to the top 100 entries, all of which will receive a ticket to a University of Memphis basketball game (date TBD). From those 100, the top 10 entries will receive a $1,000 scholarship to an accredited college, community college or trade school.

Commenting on the competition, Monogram Foods’ Chairman and CEO Karl Schledwitz stated, “This essay contest was such a success last year, and we are thrilled that, again this year, we are able to give students financial support and a chance to meet the iconic Penny Hardaway. Through this scholarship initiative, we aim to invest in Memphis’ leaders of tomorrow and pay tribute to the core character values of our King Cotton spokesperson and local NBA legend, Penny Hardaway.”

The students who received scholarship money last year came from Brighton High School, Carver High School, Horn Lake High School, Lewisburg High School, Marion High School, Martin Luther King Jr. College Preparatory High School, Memphis Academy of Science and Engineering, and home school, Shelby County.
